INVESTMENT STRATEGY
Gemsbok Resources offers a unique investment approach to the opportunities available in the DRC markets using South African industrially advanced economy as a source for know-how and operational partners for investments to be implemented in the country.
1. INVESTMENT IN SCALABLE BUSINESSES
The activity consists of identifying and investing in promising projects/businesses with scalable prospects and generating sustained growth together with socio-economic impact. Gemsbok Resources invests in these projects/businesses with risk capital, debt financing, and management support to reach their full business potential and achieve long-term success. It invests financial resources in companies having outstanding medium-term growth prospects.
To ensure progress and profitability, the proposed service intends to invest capital in companies in order to respond to twofold needs:
-
Provide for lack of capital to finance businesses
-
Strengthening management culture (strategic and financial planning, business structuring, training, monitoring scoreboards, etc.).
2. SELECTED SECTORS
Two high-growth business sectors have been selected: Mining and Renewable energy.
3. PERIMETER
Gemsbok Resources’ target market is the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa. The DRC is considered the world's richest country in terms of wealth in natural resources, including minerals such as cobalt and copper. Most of the raw mineral deposits remain untapped and are worth an estimated $24 trillion. These deposits include the world's largest coltan reserves and considerable amounts of cobalt. With about the size of Western Europe, the DRC is the largest country in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to exceptional natural resources, the DRC is endowed with hydropower potential, significant arable land, immense biodiversity, and the world’s second-largest rainforest (World Bank). The DRC represents a market of about 100 million inhabitants, of which 68 % are below 25 years old.
South Africa, an upper-middle-income and the second-largest economy in Africa, is the most industrialized, technologically advanced, and diversified economy on the continent. It already has first-rate businesses in the high-growth sectors we are targeting. Therefore, when necessary, we invest in South Africa and use its companies’ know-how and advanced technology to develop business activities in the DRC market. The current population of South Africa is over 62 million people.
